Before the Daytona's launch within the early 1960s, Rolex had been creating chronograph observes with water resistant case screw back and crown and rounded pusher without graduated bazel that laid the foundation for the iconic Daytona series.

The early Rolex chronographs from the 1940s and 1950s, regularly referred to as "Pre-Daytona" models, were instrumental in shaping the design and functionality of afterward Rolex chronographs.

The advancement of these early chronographs played a significant part within the development of the Rolex Daytona, which officially debuted within the early 1960s and picked up gigantic popularity as a sports chronograph.
